Versilia

Versilia is undoubtedly one of the most famous seaside resorts in Italy and abroad.
Its popularity stems from a unique combination of features that together offer the right answer to any sort of tourism.
The landscape itself, is one of the richest in variety; twenty kilometers of sandy beach with first-rate bathing establishments, natural parks and pinewoods, pretty countryside and a large lake.

Dominating this, there are the Apuan Alps with their marble quarries and picturesque villages to visit, which are also starting points for mountain trekking.
It is the ideal place for sport. Sailing and windsurfing are very popular and there are also specialized schools where these sports are taught. Tennis, jogging, horse-riding, skating, cycling and trekking can satisfy anyone's taste. For golf lovers, there is an 18- hole golf course in the northern part of Versilia, two kilometers from the sea.

Versilia

Thanks to its well-organized and equipped marina, among the best on the west coast, Versilia attracts luxury yachts from all over the world.
In spring, Viareggio's port provides the ideal setting for the "Vela Show", the most important international sailing event with its trial runs at sea, exposition of nautical goods and equipment, encounters and conferences.
Moreover, Versilia offers a wide range of cultural events such as the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago (July-August), the literary prize known as "Premio Viareggio" (at the end of August), "The Political Satire Prize - Forte dei Marmi" (June-September) and the summer theatre "La Versiliana" nestled in the splendid park of Marina di Pietrasanta.

La Versiliana (from July to August) hosts a wide choice of entertainment, from ballet to theatrical performances and operetta to cultural encounters.
There is even and area dedicated to children's amusements.
With its great variety of 500 hotels as well as hundreds of restaurants which serve seafood specialties, Versilia offers its visitors all sorts of tourist attractions.
Naturally, there is also a wide choice of pubs discotheques, cinemas and other venues for those in search of fun.

Every year in August on the shores of Lake Massaciuccoli where Puccini lived and composed his masterpieces, the Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago is held in an open-theatre.
Enjoying the operas of the great Maestro in the very place where they were composed is more than just listening to them, it is bringing them back to life.
Carnival is not just the ecstatic period that precedes Lent, nor is it only the time when allegorical floats parade along Viareggio's seafront. In Viareggio, Carnival is a "state of mind"; satire and irony are so deeply-rooted and characteristic of its inhabitants and their carnival that even visitors are able to enjoy it. Carnival is held every year in February.
